Casting Call: 'Sunday in the Park with George'

Playhouse 22 will have open auditions for "Sunday in the Park with George" at 1 p.m. Jan. 27 and at 7 p.m. Jan. 29. Callbacks will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 2. Auditions will be held at East Brunswick Community Arts Center, 721 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. Auditions are to be held on a first-come, first-served basis.

Singers should be prepared to sing 16 bars from musical theater in the style of the show. No songs from the show; however, other Sondheim songs are permitted. No Disney, country, pop or rock songs, if possible. No acapella. An accompanist will be provided. You must bring your own sheet music.

Show dates are April 19-May 5. All shows are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 3 p.m. Sundays.

George (tenor)An artist, intense, passionate about his work. In Act 2 he plays a descendant who is a frustrated artist.
Dot/Marie (soprano)George's headstrong mistress, fun, emotional. In Act 2 she plays George's elderly grandmother.
Jules/Bob Greenberg
(high baritone)
A rival artist, well known. Also the museum director.
Yvonne/Naomi Eisen (alto)Jules' pampered wife. Also a sardonic composer.
Franz/Dennis (high baritone)Jules' coachman, quick to temper. Also a frazzled technician.
Frieda/Betty (alto)Franz's wife. A cook for Jules and Yvonne. Also an artist.

A surly blue-collar laborer. Also a visiting Texas curator.
A soldier/Alex (baritone)A French military man. Also a jealous artist.
Louis/Billy Webster (tenor)A baker, simple, well intended, nice guy.Also a friend of Harriet.
Celeste #1/A waitress (soprano)A young shop girl. Also a caterer at the art opening
Celeste #2/Elaine (soprano)Another shop girl. Also George's ex-wife.
Louise/Young girl

Jules and Yvonne's spoiled daughter. Also the daughter of Harriet. Must read 8-12 years old.
Nurse/Harriet Pawling (mezzo-soprano)Old lady's attendant. Also a patron of the arts.
Old lady/Blair Daniels (soprano)George's cranky mother. Also an art critic.
