'Alice in Wonderland' at Main Street Theatre

The Sayreville Main Street Theatre Company will be presenting "Alice In Wonderland".

The show will be performing at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and 8 p.m. on Fridays from Jul 26 to Aug 2. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children, and can be purchased at the box office or online.

The show is written by Michael Sirotta, with help from Heather M. Dominick, and based on Lewis Carrol's novel for children "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". It is directed by Jessica Mennella and produced by Pat Schladeback.

The show will be performed by a cast of children 13 and under.

Pop Concert at Villagers Theatre

Villagers Theatre will be holding a pop concert this week.

'The Coffee House' at Edison Valley Playhouse

The variety show "The Coffee House" will open this Saturday at Edison Valley Playhouse.

The show will feature live performances from a combination of sketch comedy groups, stand-up comedians and philosophers, musicians, and singers. June 21's performance will include the original sketch comedy "The Pavlovian Dog Show," with Mike Patierno, Frank Falisi, and Ryan Correll; the stand-up comedian Chris DeBono; dramatic performances from Zachary McCullough; and original jam music by Marcus Diaz, Anthony Casale and Ben Simons. Showdates will be 8-10 p.m. June 21 and 26 and August 16, although these dates are subject to change.

Open Mic Nite at Main Street Theatre

The Sayreville Main Street Theatre will be holding an "open mic nite".

The event will take place on July 11. Doors open at 7 p.m., and performances start at 8 p.m. There is a $6 admission/performance fee.

 Anybody ages 14 and up is allowed to perform. Any type of performance is accepted. Please bring any required self accompaniment or CD. All selections must be appropriate for audiences of all ages.

Casting Call: 'The Wedding Singer'

The Young Adult Drama Group will be having auditions for "The Wedding Singer".

 Auditions and sign up for crew will be on June 25 at 6 p.m. in the North Brunswick Township Performing Arts Center. If you want to be in the ensemble or crew, you will be able to leave in about an hour. If you want to audition for a lead or featured role, please prepare 32 bars of a contemporary Broadway or pop song. Please bring your own sheet music. Also come prepared to dance a short combination. If necessary, callbacks will be June 26 at 6 p.m. To audition, you must turn 13 by July 1 and be younger than 23 on August 1.

 Rehearsals will be Mondays through Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the North Brunswick Township Performing Arts Center starting on June 30. Due to the abbreviated rehearsal process, cast members are expected to attend all rehearsals.

Based on the 1998 romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, the musical version expands the storyline by adding some delightfully uptempo music and milking every little ‘80s in-joke you could possible imagine. Super fun, super ironic times await you!

The show will be directed by Joey Braccino, musically directed by Chris Curcio, choreographed by Steph Palm, produced by Elaine Martin-Amodio, with creative consultations from Rebecca Cahill.

Performances will be Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, from Aug. 7 - 9.

'Hairspray' at the Sayreville Main Street Theatre Company

The Sayreville Main Street Theatre Co. will be presenting "Hairspray".

The show will be running from July 17 to 26 at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $20 for adults, $16 for seniors, and $12 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the box office, or ordered online.

The 1950's are out and change is in the air! Hairspray, winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, is a family-friendly musical piled bouffant high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs. It's 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire -- to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network, all without denting her 'do!

"Hairspray" has music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman, and a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. The show is based on the film by John Waters.

The show will be performed by a youth cast of actors ages 14 to 22. It is produced by Roberta Ferlita, directed by Ron Mancini, musically directed by Nicole Barrow White, and choreographed by Ashley Clack.

Casting Call: 'The Mousetrap'


A group of strangers are stranded in a boarding house during a snow storm, one of whom is a murderer.

Auditions will be held for Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap" this week.

The murder suspects include the newlyweds who run the house, whose suspicions threaten to wreck their marriage; a spinster with a curious background, an architect who seems better equipped to be a chef, a retired Army major, a strange man who claims his car has overturned in a drift, and a jurist who makes life miserable for everyone. Into their midst comes a policeman, traveling on skis. He no sooner arrives when the jurist is killed. To get to the rationale of the murderer's pattern, the policeman probes the background of everyone present, and rattles a lot of skeletons.

Mollie Ralston (Late 20s-40)Strong woman with a gentle soul. Married to Giles. They have recently started a guesthouse, but it is obvious that they are in over their head.
Giles Ralston(Late 20s-40) Husband of Mollie, whom he loves and supports. He is fiercely protective of her and can be prone to jealousy.
Christopher Wren(Late 20s-40) A flamboyant, outspoken, peculiar young man who admits that he is running away from something, but refuses to say what.
Mrs Boyle(middle-aged) Former judge. A critical woman who is displeased by everything she observes, especially the younger generation.
Major Metcalf(Middle-aged) A kind retired military man. Little is known about him.
Miss Casewell(20s-40) A strange, aloof, masculine woman who speaks offhandedly about her past.
Mr Paravicini(40+) A continental gentleman, probably Italian. Roguish, charming and very mysterious.
Detective Sergeant Trotter(Late 20s-40) The detective who arrives during a snow storm to question the proprietors and guests regarding a recently escaped murderer.

Auditions will take place 7-20 p.m. July 11 and 1-5 p.m. July 12 at the CM building on Mercer County College Campus, behind Kelsey Theater. Auditionees are requested to bring their resumé and a head shot.

'Arsenic and Old Lace' at Playhouse 22

What’s Mortimer Brewster to do? He discovers his two spinster aunts have taken to murdering lonely old men by poisoning them with a glass of home-made elderberry wine laced with arsenic, strychnine, and “just a pinch” of cyanide while his crazy brother breezes through the scene believing he’s Teddy Roosevelt. With local policemen dropping by without any warning, Mortimer realizes dealing with this family is enough to make a man regret getting engaged to the woman he loves. That's when his murderous brother Jonathan decides to come home.

Playhouse 22's "Arsenic and Old Lace" opens this week. The show features Gregory Newton as Rev. Casting Call: 'Kiss Me, Kate'

Pinnworth Productions will be holding auditions for "Kiss Me, Kate" June 10 and 11. Auditionees should prepare a song and be prepared to dance. Rehearsals will be scheduled around vacations and will not occur on weekends. The show will open Sept. 12 and run at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 21.

The Cranford Dramatic Club will hold auditons for "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" this week.

Auditionees should prepare 32-64 bars of a song, preferably one by Steven Sondheim. Lead sheets and a capella are prohibited. Non-traditional casting will be considered.







Sweeney Todd (40-55, F2-Gb4)A wrongfully imprisoned barber seeking to right the wrongs committed against him. Cold, intense, determined.
Mrs. Lovett: (35-50, G3-E5)An entrepreneurial and amoral meat pie shop owner. She falls in love with Todd and turns his desire for revenge into a profitable business venture. Female,
Judge Turpin (50-65, E2-Gb4)A lecherous public official who portrays himself as a sanctimonious authoritarian. He takes advantage of his position in the city and is responsible for Todd's imprisonment.
Johanna (18-21, Bb3-A5)A sprightly girl, full of innocence, constantly yearning for freedom. Todd's long-lost daughter and Turpin's ward.
Anthony Hope (20-30, Bb2-F4)A naive and youthful sailor returning to London. He helps Todd return to London and unexpectedly falls in love with Johanna.
Beggar Woman (35-50, Ab3-F5)A deranged and schizophrenic woman who harbours a dark, surprising secret.
The Beadle (40-55, D3-D5)A pompous public official. He is deeply loyal to the corrupt Turpin.

Tobias Ragg (12-25, Bb2-Ab4A poor youngster apprenticed to Pirelli. He/She finds a surrogate family in Todd and Lovett.

The theater is also seeking additional performers who have experience in modern/contemporary dance.

Auditions will take place at 7:30 p.m. June 9 and 16. Callbacks will be at 7:30 p.m. June 17. Rehearsals will begin in August, and performances will be at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays Oct. 17-Nov. 1 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 26.

Casting Call: 'The Secret Garden'

Auditions will be held for "The Secret Garden" at Kelsey Theater this June.

Set in the early years of the 20th century, Mary Lennox, a stubborn English girl born and raised in British India, is orphaned by a cholera outbreak when she is eleven years old.  With everyone and everything familiar to her now gone, Mary is sent to live in Yorkshire, England, with relatives she has never met. Amidst her grief and bewilderment, Mary's own personality begins to blossom as she and a young gardener bring new life to a neglected garden, as well as to her sickly cousin and heartbroken uncle.

Auditionees will need to bring a resumé, headshot and a list of all known personal conflicts between June 29 and October 19. They should also prepare a song in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided.

Auditions for adults will be 7-10 p.m. June 16 and 19, and 6-10 p.m. June 22. Auditions for children will be 7-10 p.m. June 18 and noon-4 p.m. June 22. All auditionees must have turned at least eight years old by January 1, 2014. Callbacks will be held as needed. Audition appointments are encouraged but not required.

Archibald Craven (Tenor, 30-45)The brooding master of Misselthwaite Manor who suffers from a crooked spine and serious depression since the death of his wife, Lily, ten years ago. Archibald is a reclusive man who is unable to face his sickly son, Colin, who is a painful reminder of his late wife. By show's end, Archibald undergoes a drastic change in both his spirit and his health.
Martha (Mezzo/Belt, 18-30)A maidservant who befriends Mary, she is charmingly frank and has a levelheaded approach to all aspects of life. Her simplicity and kindness are a great help in Mary's adjustment to her new home.
Mary Lennox (Mezzo, 9-14)A young girl who, after the death of her parents in India, is sent to live with her Uncle Archibald, whom she has never met, in Yorkshire, England. Mary's character evolves dramatically throughout the course of the play - from a spoiled, unloving girl to one who is affectionate and spirited.
Dickon (Tenor, 16-25)Martha's brother. A friendly, soft-spoken and adventurous young man. Finds joy in being outdoors and has a special connection with plants and animals.
Dr. Neville Craven (Baritone, 30-45)Archibald's cynical younger brother. A weak man with a cold disposition, Neville is resentful of both Lily's love for Archibald and Colin's inevitable inheritance of Misselthwaite.
Ben Weatherstaff (Baritone, 50-70)A gruff, elderly gardener who is only permitted to stay at Misselthwaite because he was a favorite of the late Lily Craven. Although he is rather course, Ben is fundamentally kind-hearted and loyal.
Capt. Albert Lennox (Tenor, 25-45)Mary's warm and loving father, now deceased. He appears throughout the play in both flashback and as a ghost.
Fakir (Tenor, 18-40)An Indian mystic and servant in the Lennox household, now deceased. He appears throughout the show as a ghost.

These circumstances have left Colin overbearing and dejected but because of Mary's friendship, he soon finds hope and joy in his life.
Children Chorus (9-15)Consists of 6-8 children.

'Sunset Boulevard' at Plays-in-the-Park

Plays-in-the-Park will be presenting "Sunset Boulevard".

The show will run from June 18 to 28 every night at 8:30 p.m. There will be no performance on June 22. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, and free for children.

When the cameras stop rolling and the lights go out, that's when the real drama happens, as Plays-in-the-Park brings to its stage "Sunset Boulevard", the lush and sweeping tale of Hollywood's darker side. Based off Billy Wilder's 1950 film noir classic of the same name, the story follows the struggling screenwriter, Joe Gillis. Romance and tragedy ensue when he accidentally finds himself at the mansion of Norma Desmond, a once-great star of the silent film era. As both grapple for success, neither of them can manage to get everything they desire. "With One Look," this 7-time Tony Award winning musical is sure to blow you away.

The show is directed by Gary Cohen, musically directed by Nick DeGregorio, choreographed by Michelle Massa, and staged managed by Lindsay Raguette and Emma Schwartz.
