Auditionees should prepare 32-64 bars of a song, preferably one by Steven Sondheim. Lead sheets and a capella are prohibited. Non-traditional casting will be considered.
Sweeney Todd (40-55, F2-Gb4) | A wrongfully imprisoned barber seeking to right the wrongs committed against him. Cold, intense, determined. |
Mrs. Lovett: (35-50, G3-E5) | An entrepreneurial and amoral meat pie shop owner. She falls in love with Todd and turns his desire for revenge into a profitable business venture. Female, |
Judge Turpin (50-65, E2-Gb4) | A lecherous public official who portrays himself as a sanctimonious authoritarian. He takes advantage of his position in the city and is responsible for Todd's imprisonment. |
Johanna (18-21, Bb3-A5) | A sprightly girl, full of innocence, constantly yearning for freedom. Todd's long-lost daughter and Turpin's ward. |
Anthony Hope (20-30, Bb2-F4) | A naive and youthful sailor returning to London. He helps Todd return to London and unexpectedly falls in love with Johanna. |
Beggar Woman (35-50, Ab3-F5) | A deranged and schizophrenic woman who harbours a dark, surprising secret. |
The Beadle (40-55, D3-D5) | A pompous public official. He is deeply loyal to the corrupt Turpin. |
Adolfo Pirelli (30-45, B2 - C5) | A flamboyant Italian rival barber. |
Tobias Ragg (12-25, Bb2-Ab4 | A poor youngster apprenticed to Pirelli. He/She finds a surrogate family in Todd and Lovett. |
The theater is also seeking additional performers who have experience in modern/contemporary dance.
Auditions will take place at 7:30 p.m. June 9 and 16. Callbacks will be at 7:30 p.m. June 17. Rehearsals will begin in August, and performances will be at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays Oct. 17-Nov. 1 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 26.
