Casting Call: 'Cabaret'

Interested college students and high school seniors can audition for "Cabaret" at Mercer County Community College later this month.

Students at Mercer County College can audition from noon-4 p.m. Jan. 25 in the studio theater at the college. There will be a student dance audition from 4:15-5:30 p.m. For high school seniors and college students not from Mercer County College, auditions will be held from 1-6 p.m. Jan. 26 . Dance auditions for those students will run from 1-2:15 p.m. and from 6-7 p.m. Jan. 26.

Callbacks are from 7-11 p.m. Feb. 4 in room CM122.

The first rehearsal will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 in room CM122.

Rehearsals will be held from 7-11 p.m. Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays. There will also be one four-hour weekend rehearsal. This rehearsal is decided on by the cast and production team through a vote at the first rehearsal.

Tech week is from March 28-April 4.

Performances of "Cabaret" are at 8 p.m. April 5, 6, 12, and 13 (cast and crew arrive at 6 p.m.) and at 2 p.m. April 7 and 14 (cast and crew arrive at noon).

The show is being staged by the Academic Theatre Co. and E.T. Program at Mercer County College.

"Cabaret" is set in the decadent Kit Kat Klub in 1931 Berlin, against the backdrop of the emerging Nazi presence. It features 19-year-old English cabaret performer Sally Bowles and her relationship with Cliff Bradshaw, a young American writer. Notable songs include "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" and "Cabaret."

To register for an audition on Jan. 26, send an e-mail to personj@mccc.edu. You must list your audition slot, full name, and requested time period in the subject line. Students also may register in person on the Studio Theatre Door/CM122 in the Communications Building at the college.

For "Cabaret" auditions, prepare 16 bars of one song and a two-minute monologue.
