Casting Call: 'Rabbit Hole'

Becca and Howie Corbett have a picture-perfect family life in the suburbs of New York until a random, tragic accident takes the life of their four-year old son. Soon after, Becca’s irresponsible younger sister, Izzy, announces that she is pregnant: there will now be a new child in the family. As Becca and Howie grow apart; and Becca’s mother, Nat, badgers Becca about her grieving process; and Jason, the young driver who killed their son, continually shows up to ask forgiveness; the group is on a bumpy road to healing with no road map in sight. "Rabbit Hole" delves into the complexity of a family navigating deep grief, and learning what it means to live a fruitful life when things fall apart.

Edison Valley Playhouse will hold auditions for the Pulitzer-winning "Rabbit Hole," by David Lindsay-Abaire, 5-8 p.m. March 20. Auditionees should be prepared to read from sides.

Becca	A grieving mother. Tough and uncompromising, she cannot tolerate insincerity or impracticality. This role has already been cast.
Howie (30s-40s)	Becca's husband, a patient man who specializes in pretending everything is fine.
Izzy (early 30s)	Becca's irresponsible but well-wishing sister. Pregnant the entire show. A perennial party girl who never grew up; still trying to find herself.
Nat	Becca and Izzy's mother, an opinionated alcoholic with a knack for sticking her foot in her mouth. This role has already been cast.
Jason Willette (17)	An awkward and nerdy teen who accidentally killed Becca and Howie's son when the little boy ran in front of his car. A pivotal character.

'Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson' at Edison Valley Playhouse

With a raucous blend of outrageous comedy, anarchic theatricality and an infectious rock score, this wildly entertaining musical tells how A.J. kicked British butt, shafted the Indians and smacked down the Spaniards all in the name of these United States--who cares if he didn't have permission?

"Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson" will open at Edison Valley Playhouse March 18.

The show follows America's seventh president from his early days as a child on the wild frontier to his controversial reign in the White House. With the country divided into rich and poor (and with continued skirmishes with the Native Americans upsetting pieces of the new world), Jackson begins his steady climb from military strategist to populist rabble-rouser to President of the United States. Along the way, he meets his wife, Rachel, takes on the Founding Fathers, and rocks like no political figure has ever rocked before!

'Lend Me a Tenor' at Edison Valley Playhouse

Get a break from all the snow and see "Lend Me a Tenor" at Edison Valley Playhouse. The show's opening has been delayed until February.

Set in the 1930s, Saunders, general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, is primed to welcome world famous Tito Morelli, "Il Stupendo," the greatest tenor of his generation, to appear for one night only as Otello.

The star arrives late and, through a series of mishaps, is given a double dose of tranquilizers and passes out. His pulse is so low that Saunders and his assistant Max believe he’s dead. In a frantic attempt to salvage the evening, Saunders persuades Max to get into Morelli's Otello costume and fool the audience into thinking he's "Il Stupendo."

Max succeeds admirably, but Morelli comes to and gets into his other costume, ready to perform. Now two Otellos are running around in costume and two women are running around in lingerie, each thinking she is with Morelli.

A sensation on Broadway and in London's West End, this madcap, screwball comedy is guaranteed to leave you teary-eyed with laughter.

'Seussical the Musical' at Edison Valley Playhouse

Think invisible ink, or a gink with a stink, or Edison Valley Playhouse's production of "Seussical the Musical," which will open this weekend.

This fantastical family musical is based on the books of Dr. Seuss, including favorites like "Horton Hears a Who!", "Horton Hatches the Egg," and "Miss Gertrude McFuzz." Horton, a kindly elephant, hears a noise coming from a speck of dust on a clover and commits himself to protecting it and the Whos who live on it; Jojo, a misfit Who who "doesn't Think normal Thinks," struggles to find his place in the tiny Who society; Gertrude McFuzz tries to catch the attention of her love, the kind and compassionate Horton. Through mishaps and adventures, these unique characters finally find what they seek, their places in their world.

The show stars Michael Drake, Morgan Wambach, Kevin Albanese, Jessica Musolino, Sierra Hunter, Jesse Principale, Josh Cohen, Tiffany Wilson, Ben Simons, James Fasulo, Jesse Simpson, Mandy Crawford, and Sarah Perney. A bit of a nerd, an opera lover, and an aspiring singer, Max would like to have more courage and more confidence. He is in love with Maggie. The ability to sing is an asset.
Maggie (20s-30s)	Pretty and quirky, Maggie is Saunders' daughter and a music lover. She longs for an adventurous fling, one which will allow her to "hear bells," before settling down. She is, for now, refusing to marry Max.
Saunders (40s-50s)	Maggie's father and the general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. An authoritarian, uptight man with a short fuse, most of which he takes out on Max; a man under pressure.
Tito Merelli (30s-40s)	A world-famous imposing, womanizing Italian tenor known to his fans as Il Stupendo. Loves his wife, Maria, but has an insatiable appetite for wine and women. The actor playing this character must sing in Italian and speak in an Italian accent.
Maria (30s)	Tito’s wife. Proud and excitable, a passionate and temperamental Italian woman who is growing weary of her husband’s wandering eye and philandering. The actor playing this character must speak in an Italian accent.
Bellhop (age open)	A hotel bellhop and highly energetic fan of Tito’s, who uses his occupation to get close to the international star. The actor cast in this role must sing a little.
Diana (late 20s–30s)	A soprano with the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. A beautiful and sexy member of the opera company, Diana has been "flinging her way through the whole cast." Playing Desdemona opposite Tito, she thinks that he might be her ticket out of Cleveland into the big time.
Julia (50s-60s)	Chairman of the Opera Guild. A society matron and ex-diva, the Cleveland Grand Opera Company is the center of her small, pretentious world. Desperate to hobnob with Tito.

Edgar is happy with his new life, but when he naively tries to fit in with the narrow-minded people of Hope Falls, they turn on him, prodded by the machinations of Dr. Parker, who secretly despises Edgar. He and Shelley, who have fallen in love, run away together from the ignorant townsfolk and have a blissful coupling in the woods. Their happiness is shattered, however, when Meredith arrives and reveals the dark story of his unholy origin.

The show features Hussain Aziz, Aaron Bogdanovsky, Justin DePaul, Katie Hilosky, Adam Korner, Teresa Mota, Mark Piltz Jr., Steven Switzer, Rachel Valovcin, and Samantha Vargas. It is directed by Christopher J. Guell.

Casting Call: 'Bat Boy: The Musical'

Next week, Edison Valley Playhouse will hold auditions for "Bat Boy: The Musical," a show inspired by a series of tabloid headlines published in 1992 by The Weekly World News claiming that a terrifying creature, half-man and half-bat, had been discovered in a cave, escaped, and was being pursued by government officials.

Auditionees should prepare 32 measures of a contemporary musical theater piece, for which an accompanist will be provided; a resumé; and a headshot. Only those called back will need to dance. Auditionees must be at least 18 years old. Auditions will take place from 7-10 p.m. September 14 and 15; callbacks will be held September 16 as needed. Those interested in auditioning who are unable to make it September 14 and 15 but are available the 16^th should contact the director to see if they can be accomodated.

The director seeks a diverse cast of ten who excel at singing, dancing, and acting with extremely secure vocal technique in Legit and Contemporary styles and an solid understanding of comedy. Four of the character arrangements are listed in the table below; the rest are beneath.

Bat Boy/Edgar (18-22, B2-A4 [falsetto to E5], tenor)	A human-bat hybrid who develops from a primitive, unrefined creature to a well-rounded and civilized human.
Shelley Parker  (18-22, Ab2-Ab4 [+ raps], soprano)	The Parker's rebellious daughter. Transforms from a spoiled brat who taunts Bat Boy into a young woman who falls in love with him and protects him from the town's wrath. This actor also plays Woman 1.
Meredith Parker (35-50, F2-F4, mezzo-soprano)	Shelley's mother, the epitome of the perfect housewife. Holds a dark secret. This actor also plays Woman 2.
Dr. Thomas Parker (35-55, Ab2 - A4, tenor)	The town veterinarian; grows to secretly despise Edgar. Driven mad by his hatred and jealousy, he manipulates the situation using his veterinarian skills to his advantage, even at the cost of human life. This actor also plays Man 3.

Actor 5 (male) will play Sheriff Reynolds, an animal, and Man 4. Actor 6 (male) will play Rick Taylor, Lorraine, Mr. Dillon, an animal, and Man 5. Actor 7 (female) will play Ruthie Taylor, Ned, an animal, and Woman 3. Actor 8 (female) will play Ron Taylor, Mayor Maggie, Clem, an animal, and Woman 4. Actor 9 (male) will play Rev. 'I Do! I Do!' at Edison Valley Playhouse

"I Do! I Do!" will open this Friday at Edison Valley Playhouse.

A period piece spanning 50 years beginning in 1898, the show begins with Michael and Agnes on their wedding day. Their vows behind them, they look forward to spending the rest of their lives together. The audience watches as they go through their wedding night jitters, raise a family, and negotiate mid-life crises. Michael eventually admits to his infidelity, and although Agnes is angered by his actions, she forgives him and the couple reconciles, rediscovering how much they really need each other. Then, after 50 years of marriage, the couple leaves their house to the next pair of newlyweds. The show stars Craig Tiede and Juliana Valente and is directed by Zita Geoffroy-Heinz.

'Coffee House' at Edison Valley Playhouse

Edison Valley Playhouse will hold its latest installment of their regular "Coffee House" variety show next Saturday.

The show will feature the original sketch comedy troupe "The Pavlovian Dog Show" consisting of Mike Patierno, Claudio Venancio, Ryan Correll, and Zach McCullough; the comic duo Kevin Berrey and Daniel Raderstrong; magic by "Magical Vince"; and various other comedy acts and vocal and musical performances.

"The House of Yes", a dark and literally bloody comedy, opens tonight at Edison Valley Playhouse.

It's Thanksgiving, and Marty's arrival home is greatly anticipated by his mother, his twin sister Jackie-O, and his younger brother Anthony. He arrives during a hurricane, but worse than the storm is the fact that Marty brings Lesly, his fiancée. This ruins everything. Marty's engagement is a threat to the well-being of his family and a greater threat to Jackie-O, who has always wanted her brother for herself. On top of that, Jackie-O has just recently been released from a mental hospital, Anthony dropped out of Princeton, and their mother is having difficulty handling any of this. Jackie-O convinces Anthony to try and seduce Lesly and steal her away from Marty, who will then have to stay at home. This suits Anthony just fine as he is immediately attracted to Lesly. The only way he finds to seduce her, though, is to convince her that Marty and Jackie-O are lovers.

'Dogfight' at Edison Valley Playhouse

Veterans get a discount when they see “Dogfight” at Edison Valley Playhouse.

The theater is offering a discount for veterans and active service members at performances of “Dogfight.” The show opens at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays March 13-28, with one Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. March 22. Tickets cost $15 for veterans and active service members, and $20 for other adults.

Adapted from the 1991 movie starring River Phoenix and Lilli Taylor, “Dogfight” follows three young, fresh and cocky Marines, named Birdlace, Boland and Bernstein, the night before their first deployment to the Vietnam War. Looking forward to one last night of debauchery, the men set out to find the ugliest girl to bring to the dogfight, a cruel game where the men put up money for a party and a cash prize for whoever brings the ugliest girl.

The story takes a twist when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress and asks her to be his date. Rose unwittingly rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of love and compassion.

Winner of the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical, “Dogfight” was adapted for the stage by composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The Edison Valley Playhouse production is directed by Barbara Gurskey, with musical direction by Rory Chalcraft. Vocal director is Stephen D. Belfatti, with choreography by Jen Hanselman.

"Rehearsal for Murder" opens next year at Edison Valley Playhouse.

When a famous playwright mourns the traumatic murder of his fiancée, he decides that the only way to move forward is to write a new play. He invites a director, a producer and a team of actors to assist him with a table reading--- only they don't realize they are all on his suspect list, and that the play's climax will reveal the identity of the true murderer. The show is adapted from the teleplay by Richard Levinson and William Link.

The show features Axel Carrion, Charlene Correll, Kimberly Correll, Matthew Gochman Gary Koseyan, Barry Leonard, Mike Levine, Elizabeth Mahon, Kathryn Risi, Harvey Rothman, and Ashley Widmer. It is directed by John Correll, Jr.

It's almost time for "Dogfight" auditions.

"Dogfight," winner of the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical, is a powerful and haunting musical about the end of the age of innocence in the 1960s. It follows three young, fresh and cocky Marines, Birdlace, Boland and Bernstein, the night before their first deployment to the Vietnam War. Looking forward to one last night of debauchery, partying and perhaps some trouble, the boys set out to find the ugliest girl to bring to the dogfight, a cruel game where the men put up money for a party and a cash prize and whoever brings the ugliest girl wins the pot.

Auditions will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 14, and at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 15 and Dec. 16. Callbacks are by invitation only, and will be held Dec. 21. Auditions will be held at Edison Valley Playhouse, 2196 Oak Tree Road, Edison.

A story of compassion, heartbreak and redemption "Dogfight," adapted from the 1991 River Phoenix/Lilli Taylor movie by composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul of the Tony-nominated "A Christmas Story," musically moves from the pre-war sounds of early-1960s San Francisco through the gritty tough reality of Vietnam and back to the counterculture revolution of the mid- to late 1960s.

The show is casting 10-15 actors. Age ranges are how old actors must appear, not their actual ages. Men must be willing to cut their hair in a buzzcut, the style of the Marines of the 1960s. All roles are available.

Prepare 32 bars of your most comfortable and polished vocal selection. You may prepare any style you wish but keep the following in mind:

• "Dogfight" has a number of pop, rock, folk and overall contemporary overtones. It will be an advantage if your selection shows you off in this direction.
• The vocal ranges listed also apply to supporting cast, so choose selections accordingly to show off your strongest register.
• Auditionees may not use a selection from "Dogfight" as audition material.
• Sheet music must be in the correct key, clearly marked and easy to read. No transpositions.
• Acapella auditions will not be allowed.
• Choose something you will enjoy performing so you will be seen at your best.

Character breakdown is as follows:

Eddie Birdlace	A Marine private first class. He is well respected and a natural leader among his comrades. Initially a hothead; a cocky smooth talker. He eventually sheds his brash exterior when he falls for Rose.	Male, 18-25 years old	Range: A2-A4
Rose Feeny	A diner waitress who dreams of life as a musician. She is naturally shy girl, naïve of the world around her. Becomes smitten with Birdlace and discovers a lot about her self respect and confidence along the way. Some knowledge of how to play basic guitar a plus but not required. Bernstein	A Marine private first class and Birdlace's good friend. A bit nerdy and very inexperienced with the opposite sex.	Male, 18-25 years old	Range: B2-B4
Boland	A Marine private first class and Birdlace's closest friend, he is the most vocal supporter of the dogfight and fairly crude in his behavior and language.	Male, 18-25 years old	Range: B2-B4

The supporting cast will fill out the remaining characters of "Dogfight," some with lines and featured vocals, including additional Marines, hippies and bus passengers. Cast members also will provide supporting vocals from offstage.

Provide an updated theatrical resume if it is available. Be prepared to list all rehearsal conflicts for all dates between Jan. 5 and March 13. Everyone who auditions will be photographed at check-in, and auditions will be videotaped.

"Lucky Stiff" at Edison Valley Playhouse

"Lucky Stiff", a murder mystery farce, will open at Edison Valley Playhouse Dec. 5.

Harry, a mild-mannered English shoe clerk, is propelled into a lunatic mix of a murdered Atlantic City croupier, his near-sighted jilted mistress, her hen-pecked brother and several hundred dogs. Harry will inherit six million dollars if he can successfully go on holiday with his uncle, the late departed croupier, in Monte Carlo for a week. If he doesn't pull it off, the money goes to the Universal Dogs Home of Brooklyn, and if there is one thing that Harry hates, it's dogs.

Directed by Zita Geoffroy-Heinz, the show features Crystal Ann Bennett, James Houston, Shannon Ludlum, S. Patrick Nugent, Lauren Rowland, Sandye Rudnitzky, Will Sandoval, Lou Savarese, Elayne Wishart, and Joe Zedeny.

The show will run at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays Dec. 5-20 and at 2 p.m. Dec. 14.

Casting Call: 'Dogfight'

Edison Valley Playhouse will hold auditions for "Dogfight," a story of compassion, heartbreak, and redemption, in mid-December.


"Dogfight" follows three young, fresh and cocky Marines, Birdlace, Boland and Bernstein, the night before their first deployment to the 'little conflict' in Southeast Asia. Looking forward to one last night of debauchery, partying and perhaps some trouble, the boys set out to find the ugliest girl to bring to the "dogfight", a cruel game where the men put up money for a party and a cash prize and whoever brings the ugliest girl wins the pot. Winner of the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical, "Dogfight" is a powerful and haunting musical about the end of the age of innocence in the '60s.

Eddie Birdlace (18-25, A2-A4)	A Marine private first class. He is well respected and a natural leader amongst his comrades. Initially a hothead; a cocky smooth talker. He eventually sheds his brash exterior when he falls for Rose.
Rose Feeny (18-21, G3-E5)	A diner waitress who dreams of life as a musician. She is naturally shy of the world around her. Becomes smitten with Birdlace and discovers a lot about her self respect and confidence along the way. Some knowledge of how to play basic guitar a plus, but not required.
Bernstein (18-25, B2-B4)	A Marine private first class, and Birdlace's good friend. A bit nerdy, and very inexperienced with the opposite sex.
Boland (18-25, B2-B4)	A Marine private first class and Birdlace's closest friend. The most vocal supporter of the dogfight, and fairly crude in his behavior and language.
Marcy (25-35, F#3-Eb5)	Boland's date for the dogfight; a nearly toothless and homely prostitute. Crass and brash, but sneaky and cunning.
Lounge singer (25-35, B2-B4)	Oily crooner, and judge of the Dogfight. May also double in the ensemble.
Supporting cast (18-35, same vocal range as those listed above)	Fills out the remaining characters of "Dogfight." Parts include additional Marines, hippies, and bus passengers. These cast members will also provide supporting vocals from offstage.

Auditionees should prepare 32 bars of their most comfortable and polished vocal selection, which can be of any musical style so long as it is not from "Dogfight". It is worth noting, however, that "Dogfight" has a number of pop, rock, folk and other contemporary overtones, and a capella is not permitted. Sheet music should also be in the correct key. Auditionees should also bring their resumé and a list of conflicts between Jan. 5 and March 13. All males must be willing to get buzz cuts.

Auditions will take place at 6 p.m. Dec. 14 and at 7:30 p.m. December 15 and 16. Callbacks will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 21.

Tech week will run March 6-12. Performances will be at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays March 6-28 and at 2 p.m. March 22.

Harry Witherspoon (32-40, low B flat-high F sharp)	A shy, sweet-natured, insecure Englishman working as an underpaid shoe salesman. Lonely, beset by dogs and prying neighbors. Actor playing Harry should have a good English accent.
Annabel Glick (30-35, low F– high E)	A young woman with a natural bent for causes, who takes life seriously and denies herself all small pleasures. She is the type to wear protest buttons, and carries a bag of useful things like gauges and granola bars.
Rita La Porta (42-50, low G sharp– high F sharp, belter)	An attractive, hard-edged woman with an extremely volatile nature and severe nearsightedness. Rita is passionate, impulsive, jealous, and manipulative. Strong physical comedy skills a plus.
Vincent 'Vinnie' Di Ruzzio (40-48, low A–high F sharp)	Rita’s brother, an optometrist. A nervous, conservative man. Would never take risks or do anything out of the ordinary.
Luigi Gaudi (50-60, low B–high F sharp)	A boisterous and gregarious Italian.
Ensemble (various ages and vocal ranges)	Consists of two men and two women. Ensemble members should be good with French and British dialects.
Dead Anthony Hendon (40s-60s)	Spends a lot of time on stage in a wheel chair as a dead body, but dances in the second act. This can be a non-singing role.

Rehearsals will begin October 7, and performances will run at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays Dec. 5-20. Auditions will take place at 7 p.m. Oct. 2 and at 6 p.m. Oct. 5.

'Coffee House' Variety Show at Edison Valley Playhouse

This Saturday, Edison Valley Playhouse will present the latest installment of their "Coffee House" variety show.

The show will feature the original sketch comedy "The Pavlovian Dog Show" with Mike Patierno, Claudio Venancio, and Ryan Correll, and Zachary McCullough; standup comedian Carolina Hidalgo; musical performances from the rock band Waking Rust, and Dawn Gaylardo, Ben Simons, Claudio Venancio, and Kara Wilson, accompanied on piano by Joe Sherbin; and special performances by one-man sideshow Thom Tracey.

Edison Valley Playhouse will be holding open auditions for the show "Other People's Money"next week.

Wall Street takeover artist Lawrence Garfinkle’s computer is going tilt over the undervalued stock of New England Wire & Cable. If the stockholders back his takeover, they will make a bundle but what will happen to the 1200 employees and the community when he liquidates the company's assets? Opposing the rapacious financier are the genial man who has run the company since the year one and his chief operations officer. They bring in a young lawyer who specializes in fending off takeovers. Should she use green mail? Find a white knight? Employ a shark repellent? This compelling drama explores whether corporate raiders are creatures from the Black Lagoon of capitalism or realists.

Lawrence Garfinkel (40-50)	An investment banker. Brilliant, crude, charming, large both physically and in presence. Known as “Larry the Liquidator”.
Andrew Jorgenson (60-70)	Chairman of New England Cable, a firm his family started and built. A man of strong opinions and principles, with little ability to compromise.
Kate Sullivan (30s)	An attractive, sharp Wall Street attorney. Bea’s daughter. Has anger issues with both Bea and Jorgy.
Bea Sullivan (60s)	A longtime assistant and “friend” of Jorgy. Mother of Kate. Strong woman, willing to sacrifice for the man she loves. A woman who deals with her past.
William Coles (40s)	President of New England Cable. Polished, professional, middle management functionary. The play’s everyman.
